Name: Berryface
Age: 33 moons
Position: Warrior
Gender: Tom
Clan: EnergyClan
Description: Berryface is a large tom with a sleek white pelt. He has red-brown markings on his face and back. He has a short, thick, fluffy maroon tail and a knowing smile that is wise beyond his years. His eyes are of a pretty yellow-gold, and he has unusual long, dark claws
Personality: Berryface's intense desire to become a part of his kittypet parents's world is matched by enduring loyalty to the Clan that adopted him in his darkest hour. Those impulses forged a character of indomitable courage and integrity, uncompromising idealism, and a more-warrior-than-a-warrior facade that is occasionally lifted to reveal romanticism, gentleness, and humor. While coming from a group frequently regarded as soft and weak, Berryface often gives the first impression of being a rather dour and reserved, though vaguely threatening, individual. Smokyfur described Berryface as a large tom who rarely smiled. Clearsong referred to Berryface as a cat difficult to get along with, but she did see him as a good person. Clearsong admitted that whenever it came to kittypet culture, Berryface would always get misty-eyed with sentiment. Berryface's conservative nature and respect for tradition occasionally brings him down on the side of issues that conflict with the views of his friends. Berryface' s reputation for a lack of humor inspires regular teasing from those close enough to get away with it, like Clearsong, or too powerful to care, like Smokyfur. It pleases Clearsong to no end whenever she can squeeze a joke from the tight-lipped warrior. Berryface denied his lack of humor to her once, claiming that he was quite amusing while a kittypet, causing her to theorize that "it must have been one dull life." Although shy about it, Berryface enjoys singing.
History: Khan, patriarch of one of the larger kittypet familys in the Twolegplace, was given a son. The scion of the house was born in at a palatial country estate and given the name of a respected ancestor, Akela. Five moons later, Khan was taken with the mother of his children and his eldest son to live in a common Twoleg nest. The younger, infant son of Khan, Boots, remained behind, in the care of family friend, Grace.
After arriving at their new home, Khan took Akela on a ritual hunt, in the company of another kittypet, Tiger. The kit had not yet reached 6 moons, but he was eager. Akela was mauled by a Clan cat, leaving behind a scar and memory he kept throughout his life.
When Akela was 6 moons old, a young, foolish Twoleg set fire to the nest, trapping Akela's family inside. Only Tiger, carrying Akela, got out alive. Tiger died soon after carrying the kit to safety.
A warrior named Stoneear found Akela beside Tiger's still body, alone and left for dead, and cared for him. Stoneear took Akela to his Clan, and informed his mate Haypelt and the rest of the Clan that they would raise the kittypet kit as their own. Akela was given the name Berrypaw and was promptly apprenticed.
As the sole kittypet in a wild world steeped in legend, Berrypaw had some difficulty adapting to his new circumstances. Soon after his arrival in the Clan, the six-moon-old bloodied the pelts of five older apprentices, whom Berrypaw deemed "disrespectful". A far more consequential, albeit accidental, incident occurred later in his apprenticeship. At ten moons of age, Berrypaw was playing a game with some peers, and he was determined to win. With the score tied, Berrypaw and another tom named Grasspaw leaped at the same moment and butted heads. Berrypaw, thrilled at the contest, laughed as he threw himself into the head butt. His roar of triumph was dashed by the sight of Grasspaw bleeding in the dust. Berrypaw hadn't really felt the contact, but the impact of head against head had snapped the apprentice's neck. Grasspaw died the next day.
Berryface began training at the same time as Clearsong and Smokyfur. The three apprentices became friends and they were often called the "dream team" because their various talents and temperaments complemented one another so well, and because they are quite effective at the various missions they are sent on together. They were his only friends. When Smokyfur died, it devastated Clearsong and Berryface.
Stoneear took Berrypaw on all-night patrols in the far reaches of the territory. The howling of wild beasts kept Berrypaw awake with fascination, until the urge to join them... to become something wild... nearly overwhelmed him. The restlessness of his "difficult training" came with a desire to assume the mantle of his kittypet heritage. His parents actively encouraged Berrypaw's quest to find himself.
At twelve moons of age, Berrypaw left the Clan for a time to consider if he really wanted to become a warrior or go back to his kittypet life. Berrypaw found solace in the mountains, fasting for three days. After six days of meditation in a sweltering, volcanic cave, StarClan appeared to Berrypaw in a vision and prophesied that Berrypaw would do something that no other kittypet had ever done before.
Berrypaw became the EnergyClan's first kittypet warrior soon thereafter. His achievement seemed to be the prophecy's fulfillment.
